Crouton is a script designed to install a Linux environment on your ChromeOS device. This was one of the first things I put onto my old Samsung Chromebook, and continue using on my new Acer. It's always considered a Beta; Google once ran over my Linux install with an update, there are weird mount/unmount drive warnings when the USB flash-drive never leaves the socket, etc. But the reason I use it is simple; Linux has a selection of File Managers, as well as a fully functional command-line interface. ChromeOS has made improvements, but I’ve been spoiled over the years. Once you know there’s a better tool for the job, you use it.
