They have refused to die...
The coming weather may finish them off, but for now, here today, they live in beauty.

And in the same manner of Windows 8, I'll fix the problem by installing Linux.
|The HP Stream 13 is a brand-new machine. Less than two days out of the box...|
About a week later: eventually, using gparted to format the drive back to 0, I got it installed. Used it for a day or two, then switched to Linux. The best thing I can say about Windows 10 (so far) is that you'll be bored. There's nothing here that you haven't already seen in Windows 8, except that they gave it a better interface. The real question is why did it take them three years to listen?

Where I work, our machines are antiquated. Internet Explorer 6 antiquated!
We can’t download or view Microsoft Office documents because of the restrictions on most of the machines, which means we can’t print unless we're using two machines in the shop.
But I found a work-around with Google Docs.
Begin with a document in Google Drive. Email the file and upload to Drive if it's not already there.
At the top left;
> Download as
IE will pop-up with a request to open or save the file. Select [open] and print as the system allows any other PDF to be printed.

So, I woke up at 0400 and realized that I hadn't really written anything in over two days.
And it's driving me a little bit crazy.
I have to write at work all the time. People have to know what you were doing once you leave. Sure you could tell them verbally what is going on with project X, Y, or Z, but then you've only told one person and he might be an idiot. (Yes, we all work with idiots, and wonder why the boss hires them. If you believe that everyone around you is wonderfully competent, you're the idiot.)
But having gone for two days without writing anything, I'm going a little bit nuts.
It's made worse because I'm surrounded by technology designed to make writing fast and easy. My primary computer is a Toshiba laptop running Linux, so it has access to two or three really good word processors, and something like two thousand text editors. I have a Chromebook (currently in use), access to Google Docs/Drive, and typing directly into Blogger.
If there weren't enough I also have a Nexus7 with a Bluetooth keyboard, and a Nexus5 running SwiftKey.
I'm tied into Google+, Twitter, and Reddit for social networking and news, and IFTTT scripts linking them all together.
Given all of this, I should be cranking out some of the most brilliant text the world has ever seen!
Instead, I got this and half a cup of cold coffee.
Ah well... Just gotta keep swimming.
