Phone condom!

Just something for those with an inner Boyscout; a six inch phone, like my BLU Energy XL (without the case) just barely fits into a plastic sandwich bag.
Something useful to carry with you if you're going to be outside, and adverse weather happens.
So, yeah.
Plastic bag = phone condom.

If you're asked for an opinion...

After the auto-pilot of BTS ends, there will almost certainly be a "reboot" of the Office Depot brand.
True to form, it'll be called Back To Business, and this year, I'd expect a new CEO, and new uniforms to show our independence from Staples - whom we want nothing to do with, and *never* have!
But somewhere along the way, some idiot who's never worked inside a store, is going to come up with the brilliant idea of having the employees wear ties.
Please, don't let this happen again.

BLU Energy XL - Power Crazy...

1035: Going to work at 1100, turn the WiFi off because their network is pretty much... no there. But because of my last phone, I'm kind of conditioned to top-off for a half hour before leaving the house.
The battery anxiety sets in halfway through the workday, when I drop below 50% but I didn't bring a USB-C charger with me, so I just deal.
I rely on my phone a lot while at work; sometimes I feel that half my job consists of looking things up on Google, emails, text-messages, etc. So, it gets a full day's work...

2030: I get home, and after the day about 9, 10, hours of use, down to 38%. I could easily let this go until tomorrow, but just to prove something to myself; recharge!
38% at 2030 today
2130: I've let the thing go for an hour. I even think about shutting it off to get just that much more power when the system standby might be sucking down a tiny bit of current, but no. Kind of cheating.
Eighty-eight percent? 88%
Damn, that's nice.

Back to BLU

Picked up a BLU Energy XL about two weeks ago, and I’m slowly switching over to it as my daily driver. My ASUS Zenfone2 has been great, and I’ll use it as a mini-tablet when I’m at home, but it really comes down to this; battery-life.

The BLU Energy XL, as the name implies, has a nice, big, battery; 5000mAh. It charges via USB-C, and it’s really cool to see it recharge at 1% for every minute it’s plugged in! I realize that it can’t, and won’t, stay like that forever, but it’s really nice to see right now.

Aside from that, 6” display (1080x1920), 3GB of RAM, 64GB storage, microSD slot, dual SIM slot. The default software works well enough, and there’s always the option to replace what you don’t like with something else; Chrooma keyboard and ZenUI Launcher are uncommon, but better alternatives than I've used in the past.

The camera isn’t great, but as you’ve seen before, I’m not looking to become a photographer.

The only real shortcoming is that it’s running Android 5.1, but having seen and used Android 6.0 on my Nexus7, I can’t say that I’m missing much. And, yes, there’s supposed to be an update in the works, but like with almost every other OEM out there, I’m not holding my breath for it happen.

It’s always about getting the best device you can get, and use it for today, not tomorrow.

Thinking back on my old BLU Studio Energy, it was a damn good phone that’s still seeing use in a friend’s family. Hopefully, I feel the same way about this one in a year, or so...

Finally, some clouds.

After about a month without rain, seeing clouds this big is a nice improvement...
